How a 100+ year old song helped me see the value of relationships
Hey friend,
Last Sunday, we celebrated my twin daughters’ 8th birthday. It was a classic birthday moment. We had the girls sit at the table with the ocean decorated cake in front of them. Then we lit the glitter candles (because glitter must be present somewhere) and began to sing happy birthday.
But as we were singing, I couldn’t help but feel this overwhelming sense of gratitude.
Because what I was hearing was not just a familiar melody. It wasn't just that we were celebrating another amazing year for these beautiful girls.
What I heard was a full sound of family and friends who have poured into my daughters over the last 8 years. They've prayed for them, made them giggle, chased them, created special handshakes, tickled them, spoken life over them.
This little 30 second window of time reminded of the power in having people in your corner that are for you. That make you laugh and cry from laughter. That cheer you on and bring out the best in you. That provide a safe place to make mistakes and learn from them.
That's true wealth. Being rich in relationships. Surrounded by people who bring out the best in you.
'Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up. Love never stops loving. ' 1 Corinthians 13:7-8a
See ya next Tuesday.
